How to find a self storage space
Looking for storage space? You've come to the right place! Using our search you can find the best provider for you by filtering by storage category (self-storage, managed storage, commercial storage and vehicle storage) location and storage type (Storage unit, containerised storage, warehouse storage, etc). You can also filter by what you are want stored eg. household items, antiques, a motorbike or a caravan.
There are two types of providers: trade and neighbourhood. Trade spaces are provided by commercial providers, and neighbourhood members are generally homeowners with space to spare.
If you are interested in a trade space, you can get an idea of prices and sizes from the advert and then all you have to do is complete the simple ‘Make an enquiry’ form and we will put you in touch for a quote/discussion. The Trade member will get back in touch with you directly to answer your query.
If you are interested in a non-trade neighbourhood space then you can complete the ‘Make an enquiry’ form and the homeowner will contact you via email or phone to discuss your requirements.
For more information about the types of storage available check out our Guide to storage and self storage.
Questions and Answers about neighbourhood storage
What type of space is available?
The space could be any part of an average home - it may be a loft, basement, spare room or garage - or even a large cupboard. It just needs to be dry, secure and accessible. You could also rent an uncovered space (driveway or forecourt) for the storage of boats, caravans, motorhomes etc.
The average price for a neighbourhood listing is £90/month for a garage or £75/month for a spare room.
Is there a set storage period?
No. It's up to you to negotiate with the homeowner.
What type of things do people store?
Most people store non-valuable domestic items; for example, furniture, books, sports equipment, clothes etc. There is also a need for stock storage from small local businesses and ebay businesses.
How much does it cost?
It’s free!
How much commission does Storenextdoor take?
None!
Does Storenextdoor provide insurance or a legal contract?
No.
- It's up to you to arrange your own insurance for your items or vehicle.
- We recommend that you pay the first month's rent up front and agree the terms of the storage arrangement in writing or via email.
- We also recommend that you make an inventory and share this with the homeowner prior to moving in.
